Newsdesk is a general "games engine" that
allows us to produce any number of specific computer games
in which
the player takes the role of a TV news presenter.
Research shows that many young people aspire to be TV presenters
(where in the past they wanted to be train-drivers or doctors).
This game enables them to play that role, to enjoy it, and
to learn a lot from it.
Designed by experts in TV production the game places the player
in an environment very similar to that used by real-life news
reporters today.
In the game the player navigates around equipment in order
to do all that is necessary to produce their own complete news
report, including...
- Carrying out interviews via a video conference call
- Selecting film clips and stills
- Researching information
- Writing the news report
- Recording a voice-over
- Editing the news report together
- Packaging the final report for broadcast
This general
games engine is now complete. In the months ahead the intention
is to license the source code to publishers/producers
for a range of specific Newsdesk games for various markets
including...
- Schools
- PR and promotion
- Corporate training
"Exploring
Marriage with Newsdesk" is the first specific
game, produced for the UK schools market.
Developed
in association with Care for Education and Students Exploring
Marriage, this game enables schools to deliver that
part of the UK school curriculum concerned with teaching about
marriage.
